It’s time for another Austin Sports Medicine 101 class!
It’s marathon season! So why not celebrate by going for a run? I know – running is one of those exercises you probably either love or hate. And you’ve probably already made up your mind about it. If you hate running, hear us out.
Research shows that running one mile burns about 30% more calories than walking a mile. And you want to know a secret? It takes less time.
Marathon running is on the rise in the U.S., but you don’t have to go the distance to get a whole lot out of running. In fact, you don’t even have to run on a street, track or treadmill. To make it more fun, sign up for a mud run with a group of friends. Mud runs add the fun challenge of obstacles to incorporate strength training into your endurance workout. Combine with the team element and half the time you won’t even realize you’re exercising.
If mud runs aren’t up your alley, just go for a regular trail run. Or why not try running every other block mixed in with your daily walks.
Remember that running is a tried and true exercise that can be fun – just get creative with it!
