Austin Sports Medicine: Immunity Foods, Part 3

It’s time for another Austin Sports Medicine 101 class!

There’s no cure for the common cold. So for us busy people who can’t afford to be wiped out by illness, the next best solution is to keep your immune system in tiptop shape. Today is our third blog in a series of five foods that will give your immunity a boost.

Some yogurt (not all, though) is full of probiotics (bacteria that keep our gut healthy). Read the label to ensure your yogurt has probiotics. Don’t be afraid to call the manufacturer and ask questions too!

This healthy bacteria lines our intestinal walls and helps fend off advancing germs. According to studies, yogurt rich in probiotics can improve your immune response by increasing the body’s white blood cell count. White blood cells – as you may remember from health class – are the cells in charge of protecting the body from disease.

Your first defense against sickness is keeping your immune system healthy and happy. Adding yogurt to your diet is one way help the process.
