Austin Sports Medicine: Spring Break Edition

It’s time for another Austin Sports Medicine 101 class!

Spring is right around the corner! What will you be doing? Here are some things to keep in mind when vacationing healthily:

  1. Don’t drink too much. This is by far the cause of most injuries, accidents, and deaths over spring break time. This is true for college age and other adults. Have fun, but try to keep it in a healthy range. Drinking more than 4 alcohol drinks at a time is considered binge drinking.
  2. Do something active. You can count your exercise each day in many forms. Going on a ski trip: that counts! Playing in the ocean: that too. Wherever you go and whatever you do, get up and move too!
  3. Eat responsibly. Trying to look good for your summer swim trunks/bikini starts now! So, enjoy, but keep the portion sizes reasonable.
  4. Have fun! Stress relief is a VERY important part of your health. So enjoy the time you have by doing the things you love. Vacation doesn’t have to break the bank financially. A stacation may be the best solution, but do the things you love no matter where you are!
