It’s time for another Austin Sports Medicine 101 class!
Stress is one of the most common reasons people struggle with their weight. So if you’re a stress eater, the first thing you should do is try to manage your stress. But that aside, today we’re talking about stress eating and ways to keep it from derailing your diet completely.
For most of us, there will inevitably be times when you’re just going to stress eat. Something is going to feel overwhelming or insurmountable, and you’re going to forget to take a step back. The next time that happens, instead of reaching for some potato chips or ice cream, try something better for you that has the bonus side effect of helping to relieve stress.
Having foods like cashews, blueberries, oatmeal, carrots, avocado and (the best one) even chocolate on-hand in controlled, ready-to-go portions can have a calming effect on you.
Remember to find techniques to de-stress first, but if you do find yourself stress-eating, for foods that are naturally calming, filling and healthier for you.
